Exhibitors gear up for agriculture fair

More than 200 local and international exhibitors are expected to participate in this month’s Mombasa International Agricultural Show.

At least 120 exhibitors have confirmed their participation in the fair that will take place at Mkomani Grounds from August 24 to 28.

International exhibitors from China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Tanzania and Uganda are expected to participate in the fair.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will officially open the show on August 25, whose theme is: “Enhancing technology in Agriculture and Industry for food security and national growth.”

According to Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Coast branch Chair Brown Ondego, more exhibitors are expected to participate in this year’s show compared to last year’s 150.

The society, he added, had sent invitations to 620 local and international exhibitors, adding they target to attract between 200 and 300 exhibitors in this year’s show.

Mr Ondego added students from 1,494 schools from Coast are expected to attend the fair. The official said preparations for the show were at an advanced stage, with exhibitors sprucing up their stands in readiness for the event.

He called on Coast residents to attend the show in large numbers to learn modern farming methods in bid to address food insecurity in the region.
