Firefighters from neighbouring Laikipia County battled the inferno but could not salvage any property as the building was also destroyed.

Students may be ruled out as being behind the inferno as they were in their respective classes sitting their end-term exams.

The fire, according to the school's management, broke out around 11:30am.

Nyahururu deputy County Commissioner Flora Moroa, who visited the school, confirmed students were sitting their their end-term exams when the fire broke.

“We suspect there was an outside hand in the arson attack as the students were busy with their exams,” said Ms Moroa.

She has urged security agencies to launch investigations immediately to ascertain the cause of the incident.
