Kwale voters head to polls for ODM primary

Distribution of election materials for ODM primaries in Kwale started shortly before 6 am.

For a county that has become the epicentre of ODM rebellion in the region, the party is today facing a daunting task to conduct credible nominations that will avert any fallout.

The voting will take place in the four constituencies namely Matuga, Kinango, Msambweni and Lunga Lunga.

The battle for the ODM Party ticket has attracted at least 61 aspirants four governors, two senators, six MPs, two woman representatives and 47 Members of County Assembly.

Those vying for the governorship seat include County Speaker Sammy Ruwa, Mwarapayo Mohamed Mwachai , Issa Chipera and James Gereza Dena.

Governor aspirant Sammy Ruwa is expected to vote at Mwena Primary School in Lunga Lunga while his opponents Issa Chipera, is expected to vote at Galu Primary School in Msambweni.

Those battling for the Senate seat include Issah Juma Boy and Nicholas Zani who expected to vote at Tsimba/Golini ward and Vanga Primary school respectively.

In Msambweni constituency the battle for member of parliament will be between Omar Idd Boga and the incumbent Suleiman Dori, in Kinango Benjamin Dalu Tayari will lock horns with Seth Mwatela Kamanza, while in Lunga Lunga and Matuga constituencies.

There will be no nominations for the Mps seat in both Lunga Lunga and Matuga constituencies as Omar Zonga and Hassan Mwanyoha were given direct tickets respectively.

The battle for Woman representative will the nominated MP Zuleikha Hassan meet Fatuma Masito to represent the party ticket before meeting incumbent Zainab Chidzuga in the August 8 polls.

The county’s ODM election coordinator, Abdulrahim Mohamed said the distribution of ballot boxes was underway to all 20 wards across the county.

He exuded confidence that the party will conduct a free and fair nominations.

Mr Mohamed has appealed aspirants and party supporters to exercise tolerance and ensure the exercise goes on  without problems.

He said adequate security will be provided to ensure smooth running of the nomination exercise.
