Three killed over land dispute in Kisumu

Three people including a pastor of a religious sect were killed on Friday night over suspected land dispute at Kanyakwar in Kisumu.

Two were burnt in their houses while the other was slashed to death.

Angry locals staged a demonstration Saturday morning and stormed the office of Kanyakwar assistant chief Maurice Ojwang' accusing him of having a hand in the dispute.

Kisumu County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed said the assistant chief will record a statement with the police over the matter.

"He will record statement with the police because he has been adversely mentioned by members of the Public," Mr Mohammed said.

He added, "Our duty is purely security and determination of land ownership falls within the domain of National Lands Commission."

Ken Wamungu, a resident accused the assistant chief of indulging in chang'aa crackdown at the expense of security.

John Okaka, a resident, accused the police at Obunga Police Post of not responding swiftly following the incident.
