Kericho Governor Chepkwony sworn in

Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony has asked locals to expect more development projects as he took oath of office Friday.

The governor and his deputy Susan Kikwai were sworn in in a colourful ceremony at Kericho Green stadium.

Mr Chepkwony said they had laid grounds in their first term for agricultural related and other industries that will create jobs and thus reduce poverty.

Top in his agenda, he said, is the Sh100 million expansion of Kerenga airstrip to accommodate cargo planes to allow exportation of produce and boost tourism.

Others projects include opening of coffee processing factory in Sigowet/Soin and a pineapple industry in Bureti.

"Kericho County did exceptionally well, using 56 per cent of its allocation on development against the 30 per cent expected by the law.

Present at the event were Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, East African Community Principal Secretary Betty Maina, Nakuru Deputy Governor Eric Korir, Kericho

Senator Aron Cheruiyot, all a host of MPs from the region.

Mr Keter delivered congratulatory message from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
