Kimemia wants county security beefed up over recent theft

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia wants the number of police in the county increased in the wake of theft at the county commissioner's office.

Five computers, two laptops and other equipment were stolen after unknown people broke into the administrator's offices in Ol’Kalou.

The Governor also wants local security agencies to embrace Nyumba Kumi strategies to combat rampant crime in the county.

“Investigations are ongoing and it's a high time security is enhanced using people led intelligence,” said Mr Kimemia.

The governor and his staff work late, leaving the county offices accessible.

“My staff or myself working late on any day should not excuse a lapse on the part of the concerned organs,” said the governor.

After the robbery, the county commissioner was on Thursday morning at pains to explain how the burglary took place in a building adjacent to his office and next to Governor Francis Kimemia’s office

County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti said he could not rule out an inside job, saying comprehensive investigations have begun.

“No ordinary thief takes such a big risk to raid a protected area. They knew what they wanted and where to get it. We want to know what information was on those computers and who were the custodians,” said the county commissioner.

Administration Police officers guarding the premises that night would also be investigated, the county commissioner said.
