Delays in start of Kisii ODM primaries as materials arrive late

Voting in the Kisii County ODM nominations has been delayed after polling materials arrived late at the county tallying centre.

Voters at various polling centres were stranded as they awaited delivery of materials.

Parliamentary primaries will only take place in three constituencies of Bomachoge Chache, Bonchari and Kitutu Chache.

Bonchari parliamentary aspirant David Oyugi said they expect a free, fair and credible elections despite the delays.

Mr Oyugi said there had been confusion among party officials on which register would be used but the issue was later resolved.

"The (ODM) Secretary-General Agnes Zani issued a statement that the party register will be used for the exercise clearing out confusion on which register will be used," said Mr Oyugi.

DISPATCH MATERIALS

The chairman of the Kisii County Elections Board Osoro Okondo said they had dispatched voting materials to all constituencies except one.

He said that the Nyaribari Chache register was faulty and therefore polling materials had not been dispatched in time.

"Though the materials got here late, so far we have distributed polling materials to all centres except in Nyaribari Chache where the register has problems," he said.

Mr Okondo was speaking at the county tallying centre at Kisii National Polytechnic.

He said they will only use the IEBC register if aspirants agree to it.

"We agreed during our aspirants’ meeting to use the party members’ register. The IEBC list will only be used if all aspirants agree on it," he said.

The primaries will be held in a total of 188 polling centres.
