What you need to know:

  • Mr Kabelo also disclosed that governors from all Nasa strongholds will be present at the rally.
  • The Isiolo rally is the third one since Mr Odinga was unveiled as the Nasa presidential flag bearer.
  • The other Nasa rallies were recently held in Kisii and Nakuru.

Leaders of the National Super Alliance (Nasa), led by flag bearer Raila Odinga, are expected is Isiolo County later Wednesday as they seek to popularise their coalition ahead of the August elections.

The visit comes just four days after President Uhuru Kenyatta toured the cosmopolitan region in bid to strengthen Jubilee’s support in the county.

Isiolo ODM governor aspirant Adan Kabelo said Mr Odinga will be accompanied by three Nasa co-principles Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetang'ula (Ford-Kenya).

The fifth co-principal, Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, who is also the party leader of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM), will not join the other Nasa leaders in the Isiolo tour as he is on official duty elsewhere.

Mr Kabelo also disclosed that governors from all Nasa strongholds will be present at the rally.

NASA AGENDA

“The Nasa brigade will be coming for a joint rally on Wednesday afternoon to inform Kenyans about their structure and agenda ahead of August 8 polls,” said Mr Kabelo.

He said the team will tour all counties.

The Isiolo rally is the third one since Mr Odinga was unveiled as the Nasa presidential flag bearer. The others were held in Kisii and Nakuru.

“This rally had been planned before President Kenyatta’s visit last Saturday, this is just a coincidence,” claimed Mr Kabelo.

Isiolo is regarded as one of Jubilee’s strongholds with its three governorship candidates being affiliated to the party.

But Nasa is threatening to shake the ground after fronting two of its candidates to vie for the county’s top seat.

Mr Kabelo and Deputy Governor Mohammed Guleid, who is the CCM chairman have lined up to unseat Governor Godana Doyo of Party for Development and Reforms (PDR).

TJRC REPORT

Mr Odinga is expected to largely focus on the failure by the government to implement the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report.

Mr Kabelo said that organisers of the Nasa rally have listed the report as a critical issue for residents following historical injustices experienced during the Shifta war waged between 1964 to 1967.

He said other pertinent issues that will be discussed include the biting drought, lack of title deeds in the county and Nasa’s agenda for the region.

The alliance has 30 candidates contesting for all the elective seats in the county.

The region which enjoys most of Vision 2030 flagship projects including Isiolo International Airport, Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (Lapsset) corridor, Isiolo Resort city, International Abattoir, an Oil refinery and a railway line has two constituencies namely Isiolo North and Isiolo South.
