Police in Homa Bay County have ordered ODM chairman John Mbadi to appear for questioning at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations offices before noon Wednesday over violence claims.

Mr Mbadi is accused of causing chaos at a political rally on Monday evening at Magunga trading centre where two youths were seriously injured after his supporters and those of his opponent, Caroli Omondi, clashed.

Mr Mbadi denied there was chaos in his rally, saying a handful of youths hired by his opponents tried to disrupt his meeting.

Homa Bay County Police Commander John Omusanga said Mr Mbadi did not notify the police about the meeting.

“Mr Mbadi never notified police about his meeting. It is unfortunate as the county prepares for ODM nominations on Friday,” said Mr Omusanga.

MBADI DENIES

Contacted, Mr Mbadi denied that there was chaos at his rally, saying that a handful of youths who were hired by his opponents had tried to disrupt his meeting.

“There were nothing like chaos at my rally, there were a fraction of youths who tried to disrupt my meeting,” said Mr Mbadi.

Mr Omondi, whose supporters were allegedly injured during the rally, called on police to investigate the incident and urged his opponents to exercise tolerance ahead of ODM nominations on Friday.

Mr Omondi accused Mr Mbadi of using violence after sensing defeat.

“My opponent (Mbadi) has sensed defeat. This is the reason he is using violence against his opponents,” said Mr Omondi.

The two politicians have accused each other over violent incidences witnessed in the county in the last two weeks.

The county police boss said they are yet to make arrests over the Monday incident.

“We are doing investigations and will make arrests over the unfortunate incident,” said Mr Omusanga.
