Deputy President William Ruto is expected in Kisii and Nyamira counties Thursday to campaign for the Jubilee Party in a renewed hunt for votes ahead of the August 8 elections.

Mr Ruto’s tour will start at Ekerenyo in Nyamira County where he will address a rally.

He will then proceed to Manga Stadium in Kitutu Masaba for the second and final leg of the political rallies in a county seen as a possible swing zone although the opposition got more votes from there in the last elections.

Nyamira County Assembly Speaker Joash Nyamoko, who is running for the North Mugirango parliamentary seat on the Jubilee ticket, told the Nation Wednesday that they were still awaiting for a full programme from the DP's handlers.

"We are still awaiting full details of his itinerary but he is coming. That is all I can tell you now," he said by phone.

KISII TOUR

From Naymira, the DP will then tour Nyaribari Chache and Bomachoge Borabu sub-counties in the neighbouring Kisii in the afternoon.

Jubilee officials said the Deputy President will first address a rally at Nyabiore in Bomachoge Borabu at 12pm before he returns to Nyamware in Nyaribari Chache at 3pm for another rally.

Jubilee Party officials said Mr Ruto will be "meeting voters where they are” in both events.

"Kisii is no longer a Nasa zone. The DP is just coming to drum up support for the party. He will also meet party leaders," county party secretary Isaac Motari said.

He said the party has stamped its presence in the region, edging out Nasa affiliate party, ODM.

“As a party we have put our best foot forward in these campaigns,” he said, adding that Nasa is fighting to assert itself again in the region.

Mr Ruto is expected to shore up support for Jubilee candidates in the region among the Senator Chris Obure who is eyeing the Kisii governorship.
