Ruto praises Bohra community for investing in Kenya

Deputy President William Ruto has praised the Bohra community for investing heavily in the country saying it was a sign of confidence in the government.

Speaking at Seydna Mosque in Mombasa’s Old Town when he met the Dawoodi Bohra spiritual leader Syedna Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin, Mr Ruto said the community was an integral part of Kenya’s economic development.

“Our Kenyan society is not complete without the Bohra community. Members of the community have invested heavily in furniture, real estate and other investments. This shows their confidence in our country,” he said.

The DP described them as hardworking, talented and honest businessmen who have helped in building the economy.

“I would like to assure members of the community that their place in Kenya is secure. The visit of His Holiness here is testimony of that confidence,” he said.

He said that the Jubilee government has strived to build bridges between various communities.

“Our government has been on a mission of building bridges of friendships between communities and the Bohra community has been exemplary in this. Kenya appreciates the community economically, socially and politically,” he said.

Mr Ruto urged the spiritual leader to pray for the people of Kenya, for peace and citizens in East African region.

Dr Saifuddin said he had always been welcomed by Kenyans and assured them of his fervent prayers.

“What gives me joy is that the country is so peaceful and the different races respect each other. I am always very happy to be here. I will always pray for you as I have done before,” he said.

Members of the community turned out in their hundreds and thronged the Old Town streets and mosque to welcome their leader and get blessings.

Mr Ruto was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani among other leaders.
