Seven Nairobi County employees have been charged for being in possession of Sh7 million.

They were found in possession of Sh7,803,876 in their offices, which ought to have been deposited by close of business on August 22.

They were arrested Tuesday after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko filed a complaint.

They were arraigned before Resident Magistrate Sinkian Tobiko.

Investigating officers asked the court to detain suspects for five more days.

They are Mr Reuben Gachukia, Mr Luke Gatimu, Mr Maurice Ochieng, Mr Nixon Awuor, Mr Shaban Asman, Ms Bedan Wambui and Ms Chrispin Oyiro.

They are accused of abuse of office being chief cashier, finance officer, head of treasury head of revenue, in-charge of bank reconciliations and assistant cashier respectively.

Court was told that investigations are still ongoing and that revenue collection books, banking records, banking slips and computers are yet to be recovered because they are vital evidence in the case.

But the defence argued that the case is merely being used to taint the said officers' names.

The court is set to give directions at 3pm Wednesday.
