The photography competition is intended to capture aspects of the SGR project between Mombasa and Nairobi and showcase its interface with communities along the corridor.

It is being held for the second time after the first successful one in 2015.

The competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers between the ages of 18 to 50.

Winners will get prize ranging between Sh100,000 and Sh400,000.

China Road Manager for external relations and cooperation, Stephen Zhao, said that the company is excited about the second edition of the photography competition.

PHOTOGRAPHY TALENT

“It is not only a chance to identify, showcase and celebrate photography talent in Kenya, it gives participants an opportunity to tell the remarkable transformative SGR story while giving a platform to engage [the] Kenyan public and our other key stakeholders,” He said.

The 25 photographers already shortlisted for the coveted prize are expected to take a five-day tour of the corridor between March 20 and 25, during which they will take and submit their works under different, daily themes.

There will also be seven categories, whose winners will bag Sh50,000 and a certificate of participation.

He said in this year’s edition of the competition, there will also be an online gallery for one week showcasing the works of the 25 photographers.

It will also give the public a chance to participate through online voting and also to learn important information on both the China Road company and the SGR.

The winner of the online voting will bag the People’s Choice Award.

The SGR project is almost complete and is slated for commissioning in June.
