Two men were shot dead by police in Kariobangi South, Nairobi, on Wednesday night.

Police said the two, along with another man who escaped, were robbing pedestrians.

Two pistols loaded with four rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.

“Officers on patrol were tipped off by members of the public that a three-man gang was terrorising members of the public.

"Officers responded and challenged the trio to surrender but they defied the order and engaged the officers in a shootout,” police said.

Separately, a rhino was killed by suspected poachers at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Police say the carcass of the animal was found Tuesday in the Spoon Beast area of the conservancy.

“The front horn was missing and (it) had a cut on the left leg. The second horn was found at the scene,” the police report stated.
