Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party has unveiled its man to face Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua in the August 8 polls.

Dr Peter Koros, a former finance executive at Bomet county government was unveiled on Thursday by CCM leader and Bomet governor Isaac Ruto at Sirikwa Trading Centre in Kuresoi North on Tuesday.

Mr Ruto who was on a tour to unveil the party’s gubernatorial aspirant faulted the government’s move to deploy military in the conflict hit parts in the North Rift regions.

He said the government should focus more on development of the region to create adequate jobs for the unemployed youths.

According to Mr Ruto, most youths in Pokot and Baringo counties are uneducated and they end up being consumed by retrogressive cultures such as cattle rustling and raids.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday ordered the deployment of military forces to the troubled North Rift region to help police restore law and order. The decision he said came from a sitting of the National Security Council.

The president said the Kenya Defence Forces will assist in disarmament and surrendering of illegally held arms from the residents.

The region has in the recent past been experiencing insecurity following attacks by the Pokot Bandits.

“The government should allocate enough resources to develop and empower the common Mwananchi instead of sending armed forces to harass our children and other vulnerable citizens,” Mr Ruto said.

He further slammed the ruling coalition of misappropriation of funds saying it had allocated huge sums of the country’s revenue to mega projects which do not impact directly on the lives of citizens.

According to the governor, huge funds channelled towards the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) should have been used to construct and improve the state of the roads in the counties.

Dr Koros on the other hand pledged to ensure that funds allocated for the counties trickle down to the common citizens if elected the Nakuru county governor.

“I will ensure the resources in the county are distributed to all the citizens equitably so as to improve their living standards,” said Dr Koros.

He further challenged the Kalenjin community living in the area to unite for the top seats both at the county and national level.
