Police in Nakuru are investigating the death of a Mount Kenya University student whose body was found in her rented house seven days after she went missing.

She was identified as Sharon Achieng, 24, and was a second-year student residing in Kiti estate.

Rebecca Wanjiku, a neighbour, told the Nation that other residents had thought the student was not in the house.

“On Wednesday, another neighbour said there was a pungent smell emanating from the house. More neighbours complained of the same smell,” she said.

They decided to call police to the house on Friday.

They said the police broke down the door and found her body on a bed.

Her brother, Ibrahim Kevin Ochieng, said Ms Achieng was epileptic.

“Knowing her condition, we always made sure to talk to her every day and visit her at least every month to make sure she is okay,” Mr Ochieng said.

He said there was blood on her beddings and floor.

Nakuru County Police Commander Hassan Barua said police were waiting for post-mortem results to ascertain the cause of death.
