Two die, 10 injured in night accident at Salgaa

Two people died on Sunday night after a car they were travelling in was involved in a crash at Sobea on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

According to Traffic Base Commander Mishanze Thoya, the 1am accident involved a Toyota Harrier and a matatu belonging to North Rift Shuttle company.

Mr Thoya told the Nation that two people, among them a three-year-old child in the matatu, and a woman in the car died on the spot.

“The Toyota Harrier, which was heading to Nakuru, was overtaking other vehicles when it collided with the matatu that was ferrying passengers to Eldoret,” said Mr Thoya.

More than 10 people who escaped with injuries were rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital and the Evans Sunrise Hospital in Nakuru Town for treatment.

A nurse at Nakuru Level Five Hospital told the Nation that about seven patients admitted there were responding well to treatment and were in a stable condition.

The wreckages of the two vehicles were towed to the Nakuru Central Police Station.

Cases of road accidents have been on the rise, especially along the 12-kilometre stretch from Sobea through Salgaa to Kibunjia on Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
