JUST BRENDA: I spent money meant for my potential mother-in-law

He sent double the amount I had asked for. I couldn’t reach him on the phone that day.  I spent all of it on myself only for him to call later and tell me that some of the money was meant to be sent to his mother. PHOTO | FILE

What you need to know:

  • Why are you asking for money from a man who isn’t your husband, though?
  • A boyfriend doesn’t need to prove to you that he can make a good husband.

Hi Brenda,

I am in a fix. My boyfriend, who lives outside the country, sent me money for my birthday last week. He sent double the amount I had asked for. I couldn’t reach him on the phone that day.  I spent all of it on myself only for him to call later and tell me that some of the money was meant to be sent to his mother. Should I tell him the truth?

This is an honest case of miscommunication. If you can afford it, send half the amount he sent to his mother. If you can’t, tell him the truth about what happened. It shouldn’t be a big problem.
