EACC backs plan to reduce number of IEBC commissioners

The anti-graft agency has backed proposals to reduce the number of electoral commissioners to a maximum of five.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairman Philip Kinisu made the recommendations on Monday while making presentations to the joint parliamentary committee on election reforms.

Mr Kinisu said his agency had received over 30 complaints about the 2013 elections, 14 of which involved procurement.

The EACC boss told the committee that 26 complaints were still under investigation but voiced concerns that the probes may not be completed before the 2017 elections.

Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has also made presentations to the team on electoral reforms.
