A student of Moi Girls School-Nairobi has been charged with the murder of her nine schoolmates.

The girl appeared before High Court judge Luka Kimaru on Wednesday in proceedings that were conducted in camera.

She faced nine counts of murder.

She denied all the charges and the judge directed the prosecution, the girl’s defence lawyers and her parents to appear before him on Friday to determine whether she will have deposited Sh200,000 in court and met conditions set to secure her release.

The student, who was accompanied by her parents, was presented in court just a day after bodies of the nine girls were identified through DNA tests.

LAW

In court, the girl, whose identity will be concealed because she is still a minor, denied that she caused the death of her nine colleagues on the night of September 2.

Section 186(g) of the Children Act says the privacy of young offenders should be protected.

The proceedings will, therefore, be conducted in camera until the case is concluded.

The same section says the case should be determined without delay.
