Govt assures voters of security on poll day

The government has already put in place security measures that will guarantee peace for those who want to vote in the October 26 presidential rerun.

Speaking at Nyansoko SDA Church in Nyamira County on Saturday, acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said security officers will be deployed in each polling station to ensure no one disrupts the voting exercise.

Dr Matiang'i further urged those with issues concerning the repeat poll to move to court to seek direction.

UNITY
The Education CS said Kenya is a sovereign state with a constitution and a working judiciary, and that all Kenyans, regardless of their positions, have to operate under the rule of law.

"We will obey the law and do as directed by the courts," he said.

The CS said Kenyans should not allow politics to divide them.

"God had made us live together in one country, which we have the duty to guard," he said.

VOTING
Furthermore, he said chiefs and their assistants will be looped in in the efforts to ensure a secure environment for voters.

Dr Matiang'i said it is up to Kenyans to decide whether there will be discord or not.

"On [October] 26, let us wake up early, queue, vote and go home. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will tell us the results. It is as simple as that," he said.

Noting that the day will be a public holiday, he said that would guarantee voters ample time to cast their ballots..

He said President Uhuru Kenyatta is in the front line preaching peace and urged other leaders to follow suit.

"We are not fighting with anybody. All we are pleading is that do not ruin what we have constructed as a country for decades," he said.
