Ibrahim Omondi charged over Uhuru Kenyatta attack

A member of the Mombasa County Assembly accused of calling President Uhuru Kenyatta a 'caretaker president' has been released.

Airport Ward Representative Ibrahim Oyugi Omondi, alias Bomoa, has been in police custody since his arrest on Friday last week after making the comments during a press briefing on Thursday.

He was brought before Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Francis Kyambia and charged with disseminating information with the intention of preventing the October 26 poll.

He was also accused of making comments that could cause disaffection against the presidency.

Mr Omondi denied both charges.

BAIL

Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki, who was Mr Omondi's lawyer, urged the court to release the accused on bond since the charges were bailable.

Mr Faki accused police of denying his client bail at the police station on Friday.

Present in court to show solidarity with the ward rep was Governor Hassan Joho, his deputy William Kingi, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, MCAs, supporters and family members

Mr Omondi was released on Sh100,000 cash bail.
