The embattled acting vice-chancellor of Moi University, Laban Ayiro, has spoken out, calling for support from all Kenyans "to enable the university [to] move forward.”

Prof Ayiro, appointed last week, has faced fierce opposition from some leaders in Uasin Gishu County, who called him an “outsider.”

On Wednesday, he played down the current tensions in the region, saying "all is well in Eldoret."

Prof Ayiro was speaking in Nairobi at a forum organised by the Kenya Bureau of Standards to launch new technical rules for designing buildings and civil engineering works.
