A neighbour, Ms Wilkister Muge, disclosed to the Nation that the two were cohabiting at the rented apartment in Kanu street.

"They have lived in Page apartment for about one month. Today we heard a commotion in the house before we heard a loud bang.

"On checking we saw the agitated officer holding a gun and [we] ran for our safety as we knew he had shot someone,” Ms Muge said.

The officer, who is based in Molo police station, is said to have been angry at the woman.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru OCPD Joshua Omukata and his deputy Daniel Kitavi said detectives had launched investigations.

Mr Omukata said it was not clear how the policeman managed to sneak a gun from his work station to his residence.
