Two teachers arrested after they were found drinking with their students in Ol Kalou town will face criminal charges.

Ol Kalou OCPD Wilson Kosgei said on Tuesday that police decided to add criminal charges related to child abuse, saying earlier charges of being drunk and disorderly were too lenient.

“We have completed our investigations and forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

We are waiting for further instructions from the DPP,” said Mr Kosgei.

PRIVATE SCHOOL

The police boss argued that the teachers at the private school were adults and had a responsibility to protect and guide their students.

Senior Education ministry officials visited the station and are conducting their own investigations, he added.

The two teachers and a school driver were with 33 Form Four students comprising 11 girls and 22 boys from Naivasha Mixed High School.

They were arrested at 9 pm on Friday after they were found “having fun” with their students.

DRINKS

They had obtained the drinks from a local supermarket.

On Monday, detectives spent the better part of the day collecting evidence at a supermarket in Ol Kalou where the students and teachers are suspected to have bought the alcoholic drinks.
