First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Saturday led calls for peace as she joined thousands of women from different regions to pray for the country.

Mrs Kenyatta joined women from different faiths at Uhuru Park in Nairobi for an interdenominational prayer rally and urged them to be agents of peace and stability.

The First Lady said the women gathered at the rally, with different backgrounds and interests, were united for the common focus of a peaceful and prosperous Kenya.

CENTRAL ROLE

She said women had a central role to play in promoting the stability of the nation since stable family units were the building blocks of a strong society.

“I urge all of us to embrace our unique status in our communities as a united front. Peace and prosperity for this nation will be the result of our cumulative efforts,” the First Lady said.

Every citizen, she said, had a duty to ensure their personal lives espouse values that promoted and built a better Kenya for all.

UNITY STATUS

Mrs Kenyatta said women enjoyed the status of unity and they should use it to cultivate the same in the society.

“Each of us can affect an individual, a family or a community in a way that fundamentally alters them and that is what we must seek to do,” she said.

The First Lady urged women to continue praying for the country even as they took up the proactive role to promote unity within their spheres of influence.

“And we must persevere in these efforts knowing that although we may have our differences, we as women and mothers must guard this nation for the future of our children,” she said.

BOUND TOGETHER

That the women gathered at the rally were bound together by the desire to “yield to God - to pray and to pray without apology”, Mrs Kenyatta said.

Deputy President William Ruto’s wife was also in attendance at the event, which was organised by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission and Trans World Radio, a multinational evangelical Christian media distributor.
