Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka Mwangi says he will not succumb to pressure to engage in early campaigns despite provocation by people eyeing his seat in the 2017 General Election.

The governor, who was on a working tour of Ndaragwa Central ward accompanied by local MCA Mwangi Kagwe, termed as idlers the people who have started early campaigns. He said they would not distract him from his work.

“Some people who have lived in Nairobi all their lives and have never shown interest in our county have launched campaigns for the seat of governor. But I will not abandon my work to engage them,” he said while addressing residents of Ndaragwa town.

This was a veiled reference to former Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia who has shown interest in the seat.

The governor toured the ward before addressing the rally. He commissioned Kamiruri and Kianjogu dispensaries and a Sh1.2 million generator at Ndaragwa Health Centre. He also launched the construction of Subego bridge and inspected gravelling and grading of roads in the area.

JOB SEEKERS

Mr Waithaka criticised politicians whom he said were alleging that his administration had done nothing for the people, saying they were idlers and saboteurs. “They are coming back home after losing their lucrative positions in the national government. These are job seekers pretending to be champions of democracy and development,” the governor said.

The governor said his administration had opened up 1,500km of rural-access roads and had set aside over Sh1 billion to upgrade more roads in the current financial year.

He added that his government had spent over Sh300 million to upgrade both JM Kariuki Memorial and Engineer hospitals to level five and four status respectively, and that the two institutions would soon treat chronic diseases like cancer.

“We have transformed Nyandarua County within three years. Farmers are able to transport agricultural products to the market with ease and dairy farmers are benefiting from subsidised services for their animals,” he said.

He thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for identifying the county as among the marginalised ones in Kenya since independence. He said key roads such as Kariamu-Mailu- Inya, Kirima-Ndinda, Kirima-Engineer, Machinery-Gilgil and those in Ol’Kalou town would be tarmacked soon by the national government.
