Raila Odinga campaigns in Lamu

Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga will today be in Lamu on a charm offensive tour.

Mr Odinga’s tour comes16 days to the August 8 polls.

The visit seeks to solidify last minute Nasa support in the region which has 69,776 registered voters.

Lamu County ODM Coordinator Zahara Shee said Mr Odinga will hold a public rally at the Mkunguni Square in Lamu town in the afternoon.

On April 7, Mr Odinga was to tour the county but his visit was cancelled at the last minute.

This will be Mr Odinga’s first tour to the county since 2013.

Earlier this year, ODM deputy party leader and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho together with other Coast opposition leaders led campaign rallies in various parts of Lamu.

Kalonzo Musyoka, Wiper party leader led campaigns in Kizingitini and Lamu Island in April this year.

Mr Odinga’s tour is also a comeback campaign for the party after Nasa co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula led a major political rally at the Mkunguni Square last month.

Nasa enjoys considerable support in Lamu bearing and in 2013 General Election the region voted overwhelmingly for ODM.

Mr Odinga’s tour also comes just days after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto toured Kizingitini in Lamu East and Mpeketoni in Lamu West to solidify support for the Jubilee Party a head of the coming elections.
