Uhuru, Ruto return to Coast to launch projects

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto will again visit the Coast region for a three day working and campaign tour beginning on Saturday.

The two had interrupted their tour of the region Friday after launching projects in Lamu County to enable the President preside over a pass out parade of General Service Unit officers at their training School in Embakasi, Nairobi.

Mr Ruto was in Meru County where, accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and local Jubilee politicians, he attended the Baite Family thanksgiving and prayer rally at Kathurine town.

He used the occasion to welcome Ms Kawira Mwangaza to Jubilee Party from PNU, led by Meru Governor Peter Munya.

She is seeking to unseat Meru Woman Rep Florence Kajuju, also a Jubilee member.

State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said in statement last evening that President Kenyatta will go to the Coast to launch and inspect projects “that are aimed at transforming lives through inclusive growth".

The tour of Coast counties, he added, were part of President Kenyatta’s nationwide tour to “meet the people and launch transformational projects implemented through initiatives by the Jubilee Administration".

President Kenyatta and Mr Ruto are slated to start their programme with a tour of Taita Taveta County where the Head of State is set to launch the Bura-Mission Road and inspect the Mwatate-Wundanyi road.

“Roads in Taita Taveta County have been in a dilapidated state for many decades and the provision of funds by the Jubilee Administration to improve the infrastructure in the area is bound to build the community and change the lives of local residents," Mr Esipisu said in his statement.

ROAD PROJECT
Before addressing a rally in Voi town, President Kenyatta is expected to lay the foundation stone for construction of the National Mining Institute at Taita Taveta University, after which they are slated to attend a Town Hall meeting with the youth.

Later, the President is scheduled to commission the Gemstone Cutting and Value Addition Centre in Voi and launch the National Youth Service cohort programme.

The highlight of the visit by the Jubilee leadership will be a rally at the historic Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County on Sunday.

On Monday, the President and his deputy are scheduled to visit Kwale County to launch the key Kinango-Samburu Road before heading to Kilifi County for the launch of Mariakani-Bamba Road and address a rally at Kaloleni.

The President is expected to also preside over the launch of resumption of services at the Mtongwe Ferry, which will help reduce congestion at the Likoni Channel.

The President and his deputy are also expected to inspect Moi Airport–Changamwe Road during their coastal tour.
