“…Only last week, 10 years later, the President was compensating Internally Displaced Persons in Kisii, and there are many more elsewhere waiting to be considered. I was reminded in Nandi last week that about 6,000 integrated IDPs have not been compensated…”
- Raila Odinga at the National Elections Conference at the Kenyatta International Convention Center on June 13
Are there 6,000 IDPs in Nandi who are yet to be compensated?
By November 2016, there were more than 5,000 IDPs in Nandi County. That is what IDP’s National Board Member, Margaret Gathoni Wangoto told Citizen TV in November last year.
In another report from The Star on June 15 2017, the number was reported to be more than 6,000 IDPS. When President Kenyatta campaigned in Nandi County on Tuesday June 13, he claimed that the integrated IDPs in Nandi would soon be compensated, according to news reports.
