Vintage Vadada leads Lions past Swamibapa in cricket league

  • The match was reduced to 27 overs and was delayed for sometime to allow the wicket to dry, due to heavy rains that had hit most parts of the country during the week.
  • The win earned Lions 18 points that added up to them to a comfortable season total of 248 at the top of the table ahead of their main challenger, Kanbis (228).

Champions Stray Lions beat visiting Swamibapa by five wickets at Peponi School, Ruiru in their Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association Super League match at the weekend.

The match was reduced to 27 overs and was delayed for sometime to allow the wicket to dry, due to heavy rains that had hit most parts of the country during the week.

The win earned Lions 18 points that added up to them to a comfortable season total of 248 at the top of the table ahead of their main challenger, Kanbis (228).

Swamibapa got two points that took their points to 201 and third on the table.

Batting first, Swamibapa scored 101 runs by the time all their batsmen were sent back to the pavilion with 9 balls of the 27 overs in hand.

Naman Patel top scored for Swamibapa with a-run-a-ball 28 that included a boundary and two sixes.

Alex Obanda (15 off 24 balls) was the only other batsman who posted double digit figures on the scoreboard.

WICKET TAKERS

The Lions’ wicket takers were Nehemiah Odhiambo (2/24), Nikhil Date (2/20), Sirla Srinivas (2/20), Shem Ngoche (2/17), Hiren Varaiya (1/23) and Collins Obuya (1/7).

In reply, the Lions were home and dry, 103 with five wickets and 32 balls in hand. Abraham Vadada (24 off 39 balls with two boundaries) and Manoj Sai (24 off 19 balls with two fours) were the Lions’ highest runs getters.

Anup Fawdor who was unbeaten on 19 was the only other batsman who got double digit figures. Swamibapa bowlers who took wickets were Jadavji Bhimji (2/17), Emmanuel Bundi (2/26) and Saumil Patel (1/5).

All other league matches over the weekend were washed out.
