As the curtain comes down on the 2016 Football Kenya Federation National Super League on Saturday, three teams will be battling for the second spot on the table and promotion to the country’s top league.

Only two teams are guaranteed a place in the top-flight SportPesa Premier League. However talks are ongoing (FKF) and Kenya Premier League (KPL) over the number to teams to be included in next year’s league.

While KPL want to retain 16 as has been the case over the past decade, FKF want the number increased to 18.

If FKF have their way then Sharks, Zoo and Nakumatt could be well on their way to top flight action, but none will be taking any chances.

In Saturday's fixtures, second-placed, Sharks travel to Bungoma to face league winners Nzoia at Sudi grounds in a match they must retain the position.

Any slip-up from the Nairobi-based side will open the door for third-placed Zoo, who host Talanta, and fourth-placed Nakumatt, up against Wazito.

After 37 rounds, Nzoia tops the log with 92 points followed by Sharks (80), Zoo (78) and Nakumatt on 77.

Against Sharks, the Benard Mwalala-coached Nzoia will be hoping to continue with their impressive run in the second tier league, but his counterpart, William Muluhya has insisted that his boys have prepared well enough for this fixture.

“My boys are confident and will be looking for a win, which will be enough for us, though a draw could still put us through,” he said.

“I will be without two of my regulars but I have good replacements for them,” he added.
