Veteran midfielder Charles Okwemba and forward Dennis Lugalia struck a goal apiece as Vihiga United dumped holders Tusker out of the GOtv Shield with a 2-0 win at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Okwemba struck the opener late on in the first half from the spot after defender David Mwangi was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box before Lugalia sealed the victory in the 88th minute, from a free header from five yards to complete the upset.

A furious Vihiga coach Edward Manoah was sent off for continuously questioning the match referee's decisions midway through the second half.

This development prompted Vihiga's assistant coach Francis Xavier to take charge for the remainder of the game.

"Everything," Tusker coach George Nsimbe responded, in relation to what might have gone wrong on the day.

"Maybe my boys thought it will be an easy assignment, they have not played for a while. This is embarrassing."

Nsimbe would however rue the decision to rest some of his dependable players including Allan Wanga, Hashim Sempala and Paul Odhiambo from this assignment.

Aside from letting in two sloppy goals, the brewers front line consisting Danson Kago, Boniface Muchiri, second half substitute Clifford Alwanga and Stephen Owusu was embarrassingly below par.
