Ombura beats large field to win at Nyali

- The handicap 14 Ombura, spent some 10 minutes with Nyali Golf club professional, Ngugi Njuguna at the range, which led him back to the game and triumphed in the event where he carded an impressive 39 points to beat a field of 190 players drawn from Coast clubs.
Martin Ombura who nearly quit golf earlier this week bounced back over the weekend, to claim the overall title in the I&M Bank tournament at Nyali Golf and Country Club course on Sunday.
The handicap 14 Ombura, spent some 10 minutes with Nyali Golf club professional, Ngugi Njuguna at the range, which led him back to the game and triumphed in the event where he carded an impressive 39 points to beat a field of 190 players drawn from Coast clubs.
On his part, Ombura’s score was matched by lady guest winner Kezia Kihara while men winner Aniz Popat fired 38 points, beating Abdul Samji on countback as Aameen Dhanji was next on 37 points.
For Nyali ladies, Hilda Mugure, posted 36 points, with the Nyali lady captain Joyce Masai coming runner-up on 34points.
Joyce also won the longest Drive competition.
Third lady on countback on 33 points was Venessa Peris.
Nyali’s top ranked junior player and Kenyan international,scratch golfer, Agil Is-Haq, who is preparing for the Kenya Amateur Strokeplay at the same venue in two weeks, was the junior winner on 33 points.
Young Alyssa Jamal was runner-up on countback.
At Royal Nairobi, it was time for the Hackers and Choppers (high handicap golfers) an event that attracted a number of sponsors led by AARHealthCare.
Bethuel Sallah of Royal took the overall title with an excellent score of 43 points with Shirish D. Shah taking the men title on 40 points.
