Selfridge, Onyango clinch Pro-Am title

  • Irish pro Selfridge, Kenyan amateur Onyango snatch a 13 under par victory

Northern Ireland professional Chris Selfridge and amateur Cyluss Onyango from Nyanza Golf Club fired an impressive 13 under par 49 points, to win the Barclays Bank Pro-Am at Muthaiga Golf Club on Thursday.

They made two birdies at the front nine which is usual very tough, for 24 points.

At the back nine, they dropped a shot at the 10th hole, parred the rest with a birdie at the 16th for 25 points, to win by two points from the pair of Italian pro Francesco Laporta and partner Nderitu Kamugi who took the second prize.

“We had a good round though we bogeyed a number of holes particularly the outward nine," said Onyango.

Laporta and his partner made a total of six birdies for their 47 points which earned the pro 500 Euro, while the winning pro took 600 Euro.

In third place in the event which attracted a big field of over 170 players, was the team of Christian Braeunig of Germany and Sneha Patel with a score of 46 points.

Dutch pro Reinier Saxton with lady golfer Agnes Wanjiru of Muthaiga carded 45 points to finish in fifth place just a point better than the pair of South Africans Jaco Ahlers and Laban Omangi and four other teams all of them having also posted 44 points.

This year the two Pro-Am events were played in the Stableford format as opposed to the usual gross combined for the two players.
