Nairobi County Secondary Schools girls basketball champions Parklands Arya will be eyeing a place in the final when they tackle Kenya High in the semi-finals of the Westlands Sub-County Games at Upper Hill School on Saturday.

The other last four clash will pit St Georges against State House Girls. The winners will clash in the final next weekend.

Arya booked their slot in the last four after finishing top of the preliminary stage, winning all their 11 games to finish on 22 points.

State House were placed second with 21 points, while St Georges and Kenya High finished in third and fourth places respectively.

Arya, who are also the sub-county champions, will be favourites to overcome Kenya High as they bid to make their sixth successive final appearance. The two teams have already met in the preliminary stage where Arya crushed their opponents 66-27.

Led by point guard Wenn Akinyi, who leads the scoring charts currently, State House have their work cut out if they are to upset the champions. Arya coach Godfrey Mwaloma is calling for total concentration warning against any complacency.

“This is the knockout stage and therefore anyone has a chance of winning. Our past results will count for nothing if we don’t win tomorrow (Saturday),” Mwaloma told Nation Sport.

Shooting guard Priscilah Odima and Mercy Mumo will also be charged with supporting the attack. Kenya High, who also secured their last four place last weekend, will look to their inspirational captain Karen Njoki to upset the champions.

“We are the underdogs but the girls feel they can go all the way to the final,” Njoki said.

St Georges, who lost to Arya in last year’s sub-county finals, will look to complete the double against State House having already beaten them at the preliminary stage.

In the boys’ matches, 2015 champions Strathmore School face Nairobi School while Makini School await the winner of the quarter-final clash between Hospital Hill and French School. The top two teams will represent Westlands Sub-county at the sub-regional games due March 9-11 this year.

In Dagoretti Sub-County, Nairobi County rugby 15s champions Upper Hill take on Lenana School to determine the winner of the sub-county title at Lenana School on Sunday. The two teams won two matches each last weekend to book their slot in the next stage.

The Mean Maroons of Lenana will be out to exact revenge after they lost 35-7 to Upper Hill at the semi-finals of the Nairobi County games last year.
