Homeboyz reclaim top spot, charging KCB fourth

  • KCB are now top seeds at the inaugural Sepetuka Sevens due this weekend at Eldoret Sports Club.
  • The bankers will meet Mwamba, Kabeberi Sevens champions Impala Saracens and Catholic University Monks in Pool A that is billed to be the toughest on Day One.

Champions Homeboyz reclaimed the National Sevens Series lead as they opened a five-point gap at the top despite finishing third at Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru last weekend.

The Deejays, who won the Driftwood title before finishing sixth at Kabereri, edged out Strathmore Leos 21-15 in the play-off for third place to get 17 points for their tally of 51 points.

Nakuru, who were placed fifth going into Prinsloo, climbed to second with 46 points after they lost 29-5 to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) to collect 19 points while the bankers too scaled three places to fourth with 42.

Menengai Oilers, who went into Nakuru at the top of the Series, finished 10th at Prinsloo to drop two places to third with 43 points.

Impala Saracens, who tied on second place with Homeboyz after the second leg of Kabeberi, slumped to fifth although they tie with KCB on 42 points.

KABRAS LOSE GROUND

Kabras Sugar are sixth with 41 points after they lost to Kenya Harlequin in Challenge Trophy at Prinsloo while the Leos are seventh on 37, five points better than Quins.

SEPETUKA SEVENS

Nakuru, losing finalists at their home tournament, are in Pool B with Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad, Menengai Oilers and Nondescripts while Homeboyz headline Pool C which also features Quins, Mount Kenya University -Thika and Mean Machine from the University of Nairobi.

Pool D comprises Leos, Kabras Sugar, Western Bulls and Makueni - who make a return to the top tier after winning the division two title in Nakuru.
