Shujaa, who finished in 11th place, are tied with Chile, the other Challenge Trophy losing semi-finalists in Canada, on 40 points and face a tall order to reach their target of 100 points this season, with just four legs remaining.

Kenya’s best performance this season is sixth-place finish in South Africa Sevens.

They won Challenge Trophy at Wellington and Sydney Sevens respectively before reaching Challenge Trophy semi-finals in Dubai and Canada.

In the Challnge Trophy semis, Samoa were the first to strike when Alex Samoa cashed in on a perfect line-out and an offload from Tila Mealoi to score.  Joe Perez would race to the line and put the Gordon Tietjens-coached side ahead 14-0.

Kenya got themselves on the scoreboard courtesy of Samuel Oliech, but Perez brilliantly sliced through the Shujaa backs before surging to the line. Savelio Ropati’s fourth career try was to wrap up a superb Samoan revenge victory.

It’s Kenya who edged out Samoa 21-14 at Challenge Trophy final in USA. Samoa, however, lost to Wales 12-19 in the Challenge Trophy final in Canada.

England won gold and their second tournament of the World Rugby Sevens Series after beating South Africa 19-7 in a convincing performance.

Simon Amor’s side beat the Blitzboks for the second time in six tournaments and are the only side on the series to topple Neil Powell’s outfit in the 2016-17 series.

The victory puts them into second overall in the series table on 103 points, 23 behind South Africa, who remain top of the pile with four tournament wins out of six.

Back-to-back series champions Fiji dropped to third in the standings (100 points) after a 28-24 win over USA in the Bronze final.
