Marsabit caucus backs Uhuru re-election

Gabbra professionals from Marsabit County have endorsed the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto but asked for inclusion of their people in government positions.

The resolution was made at the select Gabbra Elders Professional Consultative after a two-day meeting held at Sarova Shaba in Isiolo County.

Key professionals from the six Gabbra clans attended the meeting.

They also upheld the Kalacha II Resolutions by the Gabbra clans on June 5 to endorse the re-election of the incumbent Governor Ukur Yatani for a second term.

After the meeting, it was also resolved that a select committee be constituted to speedily implement the Kalacha II and Sarova declarations “with a view to realize another round of victory”.

“We appreciate the positive contributions of our professionals, and encourage them to continue with these constructive engagements to strongly pursue community’s strategic interests at County and National government levels,” one of the resolutions read.

“We resolved that the political leadership and professionals assess and pursue an appropriate political vehicle for 2017 General Elections,” they said.

The professionals called for peaceful coexistence and lauded the harmony prevailing among the local communities.
The Gabra are among biggest communities in Marsabit County in population.
There are 13 other communities living in Marsabit which is Kenya’s biggest county in land size.
In the 2013 elections, the Rendille, Gabra and Burji (Regabu) ‘coalition’ which backed Mr Yatani easily carried the day in the gubernatorial race.

Senator Abubakar Hargura and National Housing and Insurance Fund (NHIF) chairman Mohammed Ali have also announced they will be vying for governorship in 2017.
