- Mr Wa Iria said President Uhuru Kenyatta has never prevented anyone from initiating a development project.
- He cautioned that the continued debate on succession politics could make the country deviate from realising its Big Four agenda.
Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has urged political leaders in the country to stop debate on to succession politics and instead focus on development matters.
Mr Wa Iria said every elected leader has a role to play in the development agenda of his or her constituents and should prioritise on this instead of engaging in political bickering.
While referring to political heat in the country following the remarks of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria that Mt Kenya region has been neglected in terms of development projects, Mr Wa Iria said President Uhuru Kenyatta has never prevented anyone from initiating a development project and as such politicians should stop blaming him.
“Every leader has a role when it comes to development matters in the country since monies are given to counties and legislators for development purposes and we have never heard of a scenario where Mr Kenyatta took anyone to court for initiating a development project,” he said.
The governor cautioned that the continued debate on succession politics could make the country deviate from realising its Big Four agenda.
At the same time, the Civic Renewal Party, which is affiliated to Governor Wa Iria, has called upon the President and his deputy to rise above the rumblings in the Jubilee Party and put their house on order.
“This is the party that holds the blueprint to guide this country through 2022. Any cracks, disagreements or dissent must be observed with a microscopic eye. Let the President and his deputy straighten things up and get us back on track.
The party, through its party leader James Mwangi, noted that President Kenyatta’s calls for cohesion cannot be realised when his party is in disarray.
The party also wants the handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga to be comprehensively addressed and explained to Kenyans so as to “remove doubts and suspicions, remove negative energy and restore trust”.
