Missing Nyandarua man's body found floating in Karai dam

The body of a 35-year-old man who drowned in Karai dam in Gwa Kung’u, Nyandarua County six days ago has been found.

Stephen Wanderi Nderitu’s body was found floating at a check dam at the Gwa Kungu- Karai dam, on Tuesday Evening, after he went missing on September 12.

“His body was found floating in the dam, where he is suspected to have drowned while swimming,” said Nyandarua North Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC), Timon Odingo.

The deceased was last seen near the dam on Thursday last week alone only for locals to find the clothes he was wearing at the banks of the dam later in the evening.

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

The police boss said that a team of divers from National Youth Service (NYS), police and locals have been searching for the body since last Thursday.

“We are happy that the body has finally been found after a series of sleepless nights. Though it is sad, we can now move on and prepare for the burial of our brother,” said Mr Simon Mwangi, a relative.

Local residents noted that months ago a pupil drowned at the dam while swimming and called on the County government of Nyandarua to move with speed and ensure that the dam is fenced-off for the safety of the locals.

The body was moved to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary.
