Property of unknown value was on Tuesday night razed down after a fierce fire broke out at Gatitu Primary School in Nyandarua County.

The fire, whose cause is yet to be established, burnt down the school’s administration building, destroying a books store, the head teacher’s office and the staff room.

According to Grace Kamau, a senior teacher at the school, the administration block had students' birth certificates used by the institution in the ongoing registration in the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) as ordered by the ministry of Education.

“We have also lost KCPE certificates of former pupils, the schools title deed that we recently secured and school leaving certificates among other valuables,” she said.

Nyandarua West Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Joseph Cheruiyot confirmed the incident adding that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

The institution was established 34 year ago and has a population of 180 students.
