Fire destroys property in Siwot Secondary

Fire on Monday burnt down a dormitory in Siwot Mixed Secondary School, Bomet County, leaving hundreds of students to spend the night in the cold.

The fire is said to have started shortly after 8pm when students were studying; but no one was injured.

Bomet OCPD Samson Rukunga told the Nation the cause of the fire has not been established.

"The fire destroyed their belongings but no one was in the dormitory at the time. We have launched investigations into the cause of the fire but all students are safe," he said.

The dorm housed 100 students and was made of wood.

This is the third similar incident in a week.

On Friday, fire burnt down a dorm in Wang'apala High School, Homa Bay County, injuring no one, just days after a hostel in Migori High School went up in flames.
