Former minister Ndwiga leads in senatorial race

Former Cooperatives Minister Njeru Ndwiga is poised to make a comeback if he maintains the lead in the Embu senatorial race.
According to preliminary results on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Ndwiga has 39,425 votes against his runner-up Alexander Munyi (6,832), an independent.
The Jubilee Party candidate and former Manyatta MP's votes are equivalent to about 70 per cent, which enhances his chances of returning from a decade in the cold.
Others in the contest are former Runyenjes MP Njeru Kathangu (Ford Asili, 4,483 votes), Mr Joshua Kanake (Maendeleo Chap Chap, 3,666 votes) and ODM's Kennedy Ndegwa with 1,630 votes.
Mr Ndegwa lost the parliamentary seat to Mr Emilio Kathuri in 2007 then was later trounced by incumbent Senator Lenny Kivuti in the 2013 elections.
Mr Kivuti is gunning for the gubernatorial post.
The release of results has been slow.
