The Kericho County Referral l Hospital is set to receive a computerised tomography scan (CT scan) and a magnetic resonance imagining (MRI) equipment worth Sh18.5million from World Medical Relief, Governor Paul Chepkwony has said.

Speaking in Nairobi after a 10-day visit to the United States where he was accompanied by his economic advisor Richard Mibey, Prof Chepkwony said the machines will go a long way in enhancing imaging services and help  the county realise its dream of turning Kericho into a medical service hub in the country.

He added that the organisation has also provide two new ambulances to the county hospital.

PACEMAKER IMPLANTATION

He also announced that University of Michigan in the US has agreed to help the county establish a one of a kind modern pacemaker implantation centre at the referral facility.

Between February 19 and 26 next year, renowned consultant cardiologist Prof Thomas Crawford will be performing open heart and pacemaker implantation procedures at our referral facility at a considerate cost for those seeking such services,” said Prof Chepkwony.

This will come as a big relief for many patients who until now have been forced to travel to India to access such services, the governor said.

Prof Crawford will be accompanied by other experts from the University and several hospitals in the US.

The governor added that the county has entered into a partnership with the Oklahoma State University which will see a regional orthopaedic and prosthetic centre set up in the county hospital.

“Once complete, this centre will serve people of Kericho, the country at large and the neighbouring countries. The University will provide technical personnel to kick off the process,” explained the governor.

He disclosed that besides the establishment of the orthopaedic and prosthetic centre, Oklahoma State University will also partner with the county in the fields of manufacturing, industrial technology and electrical and electronic technology.
