Isiolo Boys High School has been closed indefinitely following unrest after a section of students clashed on Sunday.

The clashing students burnt mattresses and smashed windows in two dormitories.

Police officers intervened and arrested 28 students who are now being held at the Isiolo Police Station.

During the incident, a number of students fled the school while about 100 remained until they were released by the Isiolo sub-county education officer John Nzinga.

The school has 309 students.

Directorate of Criminal Investigation detectives, regular police, education officials, parents, religious leaders and members of the school’s board of management visited the learning facility to access the damage and quell the situation.

Mr Nzinga said no injuries were reported among the remaining students but they suspect that some of those who fled the school may have sustained slight injuries.

The education official further held that investigations have begun to establish the cause of the clash.

The school board is set to meet on Monday to discuss the dates when students will report and disciplinary action to be taken against the culprits.

County Assembly Speaker Hussein Halakhe, an alumni of the school, visited the institution and said it was important to protect the school’s reputation since it has produced some of the top leaders in the county.
