Long queues as voting begins in Kiambu for Jubilee primaries

Jubilee nominations in Kabete constituency Kiambu county delayed more than an hour even as voters complained that the party should ensure voting starts.

Residents complained that they arrived at the polling stations as early as 5am but by 6 am ballot papers had not arrived at the polling stations.

At Ndurarua Primary school tallying Centre for the Kabete constituency, the vehicles transporting ballot papers had not left the station by 6.30am.

George Gugi a resident however expressed hopes that voting will start before 8am. The Kiambu county jubilee nominations which occurred on Friday were cancelled following complains of unpreparedness.

The situation was the same in Kikuyu and Limuru constituencies. The polling centres were characterized by long queue. 

This is the second time the nominations are being conducted in the county.

The focus for the elections will be drawn to Governor William Kabogo and his main opponent Ferdinand Waititu who is keen to unseat him.

Earlier reports in the morning indicated that Mr Waititu was on Tuesday morning ordered to vacate a polling station where he had gone to see how activities where going on.

On Friday, his name was conspicuously missing from the voting register owing that the register used was the one used in 2013.

It is still not clear if his name has been included in the register. Sources said he is likely to vote at Wangige primary school voting centre. In 2013 Mr Waititu voted at  a Embakasi polling Centre.
