Health workers in Kitui County have threatened to go on strike over unpaid December salaries.

Through their various unions, the workers issued the Charity Ngilu-led administration with a seven-day strike notice.

The staff lamented that the delay caused them and their families serious financial inconveniences, especially during and after December festivities.

"Our members have been unable to pay school fees for their children or even pay rent," Kenya National Union of Nurses Kitui branch secretary Francis Kimanzi said Friday.

Mr Kimanzi said they will hold peaceful demonstrations at Ms Ngilu’s office to demand their pay.

The strike notice was jointly issued by Union Of Kenya Civil Servants, County Government Workers Union, Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers and Kenya Union of Clinical Officers.
