A Murang’a man has been charged with raping and sodomising his 70-year-old mother.

Mr JK (identity concealed to protect the rape victim) is said to have committed the act on July 25 at their home in Kandegenya village in Murang'a County and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Margaret Wachira in Murang’a Law Courts, Mr JK denied the charges and was denied bail.

“Due to the nature of the offence you will not be released on bond but you will be remanded at Murang’a GK prison awaiting the hearing and determination of the case,” the magistrate ruled.

The case will be mentioned on November 27 while the hearing has been scheduled for December 5, this year.

But the suspect pleaded with the court to be taken to hospital, accusing police officers who arrested him of beating him up.

The magistrate asked the suspect to pursue the matter with the Murang’a prison management.

DIFFICULT WALKING

The victim’s family suspected all was not well with the woman on July 31 while at a family gathering in a Thika hotel when they noticed she had difficulty walking.

Family members then pressed her to explain what had befallen her.

“We then took her to Thika Level Five Hospital where we confirmed that she had been raped and sodomised and she had a discharge, an indication that she had been infected with a sexually transmitted disease,” a family member who sought anonymity said.

The woman revealed to her other children that her son had ordered her to burn the mattress and blanket after the act, adding it was not the first time he had assaulted her.
