The clergy in Nyanza have welcomed the endorsement of ODM leader Raila Odinga by his party as the Nasa Presidential candidate in the August 8 elections.

Nyanza council of church leaders chairman Bishop Washington Ogonyo-Ngede said Mr Odinga must now lead the Nasa team in crisscrossing the Country in campaigns to ascend to power in August.

He said the Country was in dire need of change of guard to save Kenyans from high prices of basic commodities.

“In January, we the clergy converged at Raila Odinga’s home to pray for him to have an opportunity to lead this Country to the next level and we are glad the Almighty God, through the other four Nasa principals gave him the mandate to fly the opposition flag in the August 8 polls,” Bishop Ngede said.

Mr Odinga was endorsed on Friday during an ODM national convention as the party sought to re-energise itself as it embarks on the homestretch of the race for the August 8 elections.

The ODM National Delegates Conference was held at the Safaricom Kasarani gymnasium.

The party is upbeat that this will give the opposition alliance the momentum it needs to face their opponents in the elections.

Speaking in Kisumu, Bishop Ngede urged Kenyans to support Mr Odinga and his Nasa team to give them a chance to lead the Country.

“We hope the Nasa team will make the dream of Kenyans come true,” added Bishop Ngede.

Mr Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) and Isaack Ruto (Chama Cha Mashinani) form the Nasa Pentagon.

The four principals endorsed Mr Odinga as the Nasa flag bearer on April 27 to face off with President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 elections.
